Yesterday was perhaps one of the craziest days I have experienced in life and one that will be remembered in history books throughout the world.
COVID-19 or Coronavirus has been spreading throughout the world and has killed more than 4,700 people so far. It started in China and is a new unknown virus with no vaccines available at this time. It is scary for people and and was just known as a crazy virus in China. But people travel all the time all over the world and spread throughout all of Asia and then Euroupe. Now it has been spreading throughout the US. The symptoms are generally like a cold or flu and most people come out of it just fine. However, for those who are over 60 or have other health conditions already, it is often fatal. That is why the huge scare and why people all over the country have wiped Costco's clean of toilet paper :). Everyone is preparing for being quarantined and realizing they are not prepared to be self-sufficient.
But YESTERDAY and the day before, the world started shutting down. A couple players from the Utah Jazz contracted the virus and so the entire NBA season was put on hold. The following morning (yesterday) Wall Street fell apart- everyone selling their stocks and making a huge scare in the economy. DISNEYLAND is closed- that has only happened three times in the 65 years or so its been open. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints had announced a couple days ago that General Conference will be held only virtual and no one except general authorities and the choir would be allowed in the conference center. Then yesterday it announced that all church activities and meetings including Sacrament Meeting will be suspended until further notice. So we have the opportunity to hold our own family Sacrament meeting this coming Sunday and maybe for a few weeks. Many school districts have closed down their schools for the time being. The government has issued that theaters and any productions or group gatherings that include more than 100 people are to be shut down at least until March 30th. It's crazy! Unfortunately that means the choir I have had the opportunity of being in will not be performing "Lamb of God" the next two weeks anymore :(.
We hope this virus starts tapering and we can resume our normal everyday lives. I am grateful that yesterday I could sit at home and feel completely calm and reassured that I can take care of my family for weeks right here at home if I need. I did not have to freak out and run to Costco or others stores like the rest of the state yesterday. We will be okay. I have the Gospel of Jesus Christ and it gives me such peace and comfort at this time. I am grateful for my Savior who is the light and life of the world. Everything will be okay.
